Feel better. Move better. Live better.

Chiropractic care is a gentle, non-invasive therapy focused on the body's musculoskeletal system. It aims to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall health by correcting alignments and promoting the body's natural healing processes.

Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or seeking to improve your general health, chiropractic adjustments can offer significant benefits, including improved posture, reduced tension, and a greater sense of well-being.

Dr. Karen Hudes

Chiropractic Care

Dr. Karen looks at the body as a whole system and creates treatment plans that focus on more than just the injured area. Injuries are generally a result of a dysfunction in several parts of the body, so treatments typically involve a broad spectrum of care rather than just treating the injury site.

Chiropractic care is a primary contact health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of injuries relating to the neuromusculoskeletal system.

The intent of a Chiropractic treatment is to improve and enhance the overall performance of the body. This improvement leads to a decrease in pain, stronger joints, better athletic performance and easier activities of daily living.

The body was created to adapt to the everyday physical stresses that it encounters, but that’s not always the case. When the body can’t adapt, injury occurs and pain ensues.

Chiropractic care is effective at treating all regions of the body, from head to toe, including injuries to the neck, back, head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, ankles, and feet. These injuries include muscles strains, sprains, athletic injuries, repetitive strain injuries, tendonopathies, rotator cuff injuries, and many more.

Treatment sessions involve an integrated approach to treatment, tailored to the specific needs of the patient. Integrated treatments combine a variety of manual techniques in order to address all components of an injury. The various techniques include: ART/STT, Graston Technique, acupuncture, modalities (IFC, microcurrent, Ultrasound, TENS, VMTX), active rehabilitation, and joint manipulation.

Most importantly, our Chiropractic care will provide you with an honest opinion of your injury and health status. We know injuries and the human body best, and we will use this knowledge to help develop a treatment plan that works best for you. Chiropractors are always keeping their education up to date to provide the most effective diagnosis and treatment plans.

Most extended health plans have coverage for Chiropractic care, be sure to check with your provider.

Benefits of the Activator Method:

Gentle Technique: The Activator Method is known for its gentle approach to chiropractic adjustments, making it suitable for individuals who prefer a softer touch or who may be uncomfortable with manual adjustments.

Precision and Specificity: The Activator Adjusting Instrument allows chiropractors to target specific areas with precision, delivering controlled impulses to the joints. This can result in more accurate adjustments, particularly in areas where manual manipulation might be challenging or uncomfortable.

Reduced Discomfort: Because of its gentle nature, patients often experience less discomfort during and after an Activator adjustment compared to manual adjustments. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with acute pain or sensitivity.

Safety: The Activator Method is considered safe when performed by trained chiropractors. The instrument's design and controlled force application help minimize the risk of injury or adverse reactions, making it suitable for a wide range of patients, including children and the elderly.

Customized Treatment: Chiropractors can tailor the Activator Method to suit each patient's specific needs and condition. The technique can be adjusted based on factors such as the patient's age, health status, and comfort level, allowing for personalized care.

Improved Range of Motion: By addressing joint dysfunction and misalignment, the Activator Method helps improve joint mobility and range of motion. This can be beneficial for individuals experiencing stiffness or restricted movement due to musculoskeletal issues.

Complementary Approach: The Activator Method can complement other chiropractic techniques or forms of therapy, such as massage, exercise, or rehabilitation programs. Integrating this method into a comprehensive treatment plan may enhance overall results and promote long-term wellness.

Evidence-Based Practice: The Activator Method is supported by research and clinical studies demonstrating its effectiveness in relieving pain, improving function, and enhancing quality of life for patients with various musculoskeletal conditions.

Overall, the Activator Method offers a gentle yet effective approach to chiropractic care, providing patients with a safe and comfortable option for addressing spinal and joint issues.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique is a form of instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy. Different hand held instruments are used in place of a practitioners hands to detect and treat soft tissue restrictions and abnormalities. The purpose and results are similar to hands on soft tissue therapies, the instruments are simply used as aids to help achieve maximum therapeutic results based on the area being treated.

Clinical Acupuncture

We are dedicated to providing comprehensive care to address your musculoskeletal issues and promote overall wellness. We are excited to offer clinical acupuncture as part of our treatment options, provided by our experienced chiropractor Dr. Karen.

What is Clinical Acupuncture?

Clinical acupuncture is a therapeutic technique rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate nerve-rich areas, promoting pain relief, relaxation, and overall well-being.

How Does it Work?

According to traditional Chinese medicine principles, acupuncture helps to balance the flow of energy or Qi (pronounced "chee") within the body. By stimulating acupuncture points, our chiropractor can help restore harmony to your body's energy pathways, promoting healing and alleviating discomfort.

Differences Between Clinical Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture:

While both clinical acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture share the fundamental concept of stimulating specific points on the body to promote healing and balance, there are some differences in their approaches:

  1. Diagnosis Approach:
  • Clinical Acupuncture: Integrates Western medical diagnoses.
  • TCM Acupuncture: Relies on energetic diagnosis based on Qi flow and TCM principles.
  1. Treatment Goals:
  • Clinical Acupuncture: Focuses on musculoskeletal complaints as part of a broader treatment plan.
  • TCM Acupuncture: Aims to restore balance to physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
  1. Needle Placement and Techniques:
  • Clinical Acupuncture: Targets specific trigger points and musculoskeletal dysfunction.
  • TCM Acupuncture: Focuses on balancing meridians and energy flow based on TCM diagnostics.
  1. Integration with Other Modalities:
  • Clinical Acupuncture: Often integrated into multidisciplinary healthcare approaches.
  • TCM Acupuncture: Can be standalone or combined with other traditional Chinese medicine modalities.
  1. Cultural and Philosophical Context:
  • Clinical Acupuncture: Integrates scientific research with respect for acupuncture's cultural origins.
  • TCM Acupuncture: Rooted in Chinese philosophy and cultural traditions, such as Yin-Yang and Qi.

Both types of acupuncture aim to promote health and balance through stimulating acupuncture points, but they differ in approach and context.

Orthotic Therapy

Starting in our clinic, prescription orthotic devices are custom made for each individual with either plaster castings or foam foot impressions taken in a neutral biomechanical position. The orthotics are then manually constructed from raw materials in a foot laboratory under the supervision of a registered Chiropodist.

Many people do not realize that their feet are functioning inccorectly. Your feet are the foundation of your body and without a solid foundation, your body can not function at its best. Poor foot mechanics can lead to pain in the feet, hips, knees, back, and even in the neck. Our orthotics help relieve pain from some forms of arthritis and diabetes.

Orthotics are also prescribed to help prevent future injuries and to improve the alignment of your joints, helping your muscles, bones and nerves function optimally.

Different orthotic types are available to meet every individual footwear and lifestyle need.

Our custom orthotic process is accepted by all of the major insurance companies in Canada and is covered by most health insurance plans. Some insurance companies may require a medical doctor's referral for orthotics. Please check your individual plans.
